I bought my leather journal cover from Amazon. I am not creative enough to hand make one from leather.... The one I bought was 9x7 I believe. I wanted mine plenty big. Most of them are either too small all around for 1/2 size legal sheets or they are barely long enough for protection and too narrow to cover the pages. Some have station paper in them too. You need to shop around to find what you want. Like I said, mine is probably considered big.
I just received my leather journal cover from Amazon. I was thinking about using the folders that I already sized down to "color code" inside the leather journal. I have not had time to try it out yet. Hopefully, I will be able to get to it soon. I can let you know if the size of my folders and the size of the leather works. I believe the leather is 7x9. It looks perfect!
Bryan bought part of a dead cow and cut it up. XD He's crazy like that.
Remember! We've got an official cover in the works. Waiting on prototypes from our man in India! We're a few months away from launch. For the moment, the cover of any journal or day planner will do.
Crud, I just realized that I read about the official cover in a previous post. I am anxious to see what the prototype looks like. The leather journal I received is a good quality, but the leather is slightly too thick and a little stiff. However, I am sure it would loosen up with wear and you can't beat that fresh leather smell! The bulkiness allows paper to slide out easily.
The folders I was using were to organize the inside and to color code the pods or bundles. I am not convinced it was worth buying them to do this. If you already have them on hand, I think it would be worth a try. They would protect your paper inside if that is what you prefer. I need to use the Everbook more to see if they are too stiff or bulky inside the cover. The size I cut them was slightly too large. Not a problem to trim them down, though. I think the colorful folders I used is a little too bold and colorful. It is too distracting and busy for me. I would need more of a soft pastel color to create a sense of calm in a hectic day. It would also create a feeling of organization verses the clutter feeling that bold colors, shapes and print gives off. This is just my opinion. Maybe some people need that to give them an extra boost of energy to keep going, too. To each his own....
I've been looking for a reason to get into leather work and animal husbandry, now I have it!
