What Is a Sentinel?

In Arc Raiders, the Sentinel is a formidable medium turret found on high ledges or buildings, often overlooking open areas. These stationary turrets may not have armor, but they pack a punch with their precise high-velocity projectiles. The Sentinel’s main feature is its laser tracking system, which targets and fires at players from afar, making it a dangerous opponent if approached carelessly.

Where to Find Sentinels

Sentinels are commonly found in areas with elevated vantage points, and they’re often positioned to control large, open spaces. Based on player reports, these turrets can be found in the following locations:

  • Dam Battlegrounds (North of the Breach)

  • Research & Administration (South corner)

  • Buried City

  • Town Hall (Bell tower)

  • Spaceport (East corner of the South Trench Tower)

  • Stella Montis (Atrium ceiling)

  • Pilgrim's Peak (Under the communication tower)

Most players report that Sentinels are perched in places that give them clear sightlines of a wide area, making them a real threat to anyone who doesn’t approach with caution.

How Does the Sentinel Attack?

The Sentinel’s primary method of attack involves laser tracking. Here's how it works:

  1. Laser Lock-On: The Sentinel will begin by scanning and locking onto a target (you) with its thick, orange laser.

  2. Laser Convergence: After a short delay, multiple lasers will converge on the target, signaling that the turret is preparing to fire.

  3. Heavy Ammo Shot: Once the lasers line up, the Sentinel will unleash a powerful Heavy Ammo round that can cause serious damage.

Even if the Raider moves out of sight after the laser converges, the Sentinel will fire at the last known position, making it difficult to escape once it’s locked in.

Weaknesses of the Sentinel

Although the Sentinel seems like an almost unbeatable foe at first glance, it has a few weaknesses:

  1. Targeting Range: While the Sentinel has a significant range, its tracking system has limits. You’re not entirely safe just because you’re far away. However, close-range combat isn't your best option either, as the turret can often still hit you even at a distance.

  2. Weak Spot: There’s a vulnerable yellow canister located on the back of the turret’s swiveling arm. Hitting this weak point deals increased damage, so targeting it is essential for taking down the Sentinel faster.

  3. Slow Reaction Time: The Sentinel’s fire rate and reaction time are relatively slow, which means that while it can deal serious damage, it’s not the fastest turret around. Most players use this to their advantage by attacking before it has time to react.

How to Avoid Sentinel’s Attacks

If you want to survive when facing off against a Sentinel, you’ll need to rely on good movement and positioning. Here’s how you can dodge its attacks:

  • Dodge Roll: This quick maneuver allows you to evade the laser lock-on, reducing the chance of being hit.

  • Sliding: Sliding past the Sentinel’s line of fire can also help you avoid damage while moving around to get a better angle for attacking.

  • Cover: Always make sure to stay behind solid cover, as the Sentinel’s attack is easier to avoid if you are out of its line of sight.

  • Longer Hideouts: Staying hidden for long periods can break the Sentinel’s lock-on, allowing you to move in closer for an attack without being targeted.

It’s important to remember that even though it may take a while for the Sentinel to aim and fire, it will still target your last known location if you’re not careful.

Tips for Dealing with Sentinels

  1. Take Advantage of Slow Reaction Time: Since the Sentinel has a slow firing rate, players can fire off several shots before the turret reacts. Use this to your advantage by shooting from cover and taking a step back when you see the lasers converge.

  2. Use Fast, Agile Movement: If you're not in cover, constantly moving, dodging, and sliding is your best chance. The Sentinel’s tracking system has limits, so unpredictability is your ally.

  3. Prioritize Weak Spots: Hitting the yellow canister on the back of the turret is critical. While it may be harder to hit in some situations, aiming for the weak point will allow you to destroy the Sentinel faster.

  4. Stay Calm and Patient: In high-stakes moments, it’s easy to rush. But facing the Sentinel requires a strategic, calm approach. Use the environment, time your attacks, and stay alert.

Should You Buy Arc Raiders Items Cheap?

If you're struggling with your loadout or need extra firepower to take on Sentinels or other threats, some players choose to buy Arc Raiders items cheap to improve their odds. This can provide a significant advantage in tougher battles, though keep in mind that choosing reputable sources is key to avoiding scams or low-quality gear. Always balance risk and reward when considering boosting your inventory.

Sentinels in Arc Raiders are dangerous stationary enemies, but with the right approach, they can be defeated. Prioritize staying out of sight, using agile movement, and focusing on their weak points. Keep calm, use cover wisely, and always make sure to keep your distance when possible. In the end, whether you’re just starting out or are a seasoned Raider, learning to fight Sentinels efficiently is a crucial part of mastering the game.
